Frequently Asked Questions

What soldering and welding products do you sell?

We stock soldering irons, solder wire (rosin core, flux corded, and solid wire), blow torches, propane and MAP gas torch kits, butane and MAP gas cylinders, welding gloves, and wire brushes. Brands include Hot Devil, Crescent, Weldclass, Companion, Bernzomatic, Josco, Duramax, Medalist, and Handy Hardware.

What is the difference between butane and MAP gas?

Butane burns at a lower temperature and is suitable for general torch work, soldering, and camp stoves. MAP gas (methylacetylene-propadiene) burns significantly hotter and is used for high-temperature applications such as copper pipe brazing, roofing, and heavy metalwork. We stock both Companion butane cartridges and Hot Devil and Bernzomatic MAP gas cylinders.

What solder wire should I use for electrical work?

For electrical work, use rosin core solder, which contains flux to clean the joint during soldering. We stock Hot Devil Rosin Core Electrical Solder (1.6mm) and Medalist Flux Corded Solder (10g, 4-pack). For plumbing and automotive repairs, Hot Devil Solid Wire Solder and Handy Hardware general purpose tin alloy solder wire (1mm) are suitable.

Do you sell welding gloves?

Yes. We stock Weldclass Promax Blue Welding Gloves (WC-01775), designed to provide heat and spark protection during welding, grinding, and torch work. These are suitable for MIG, TIG, and stick welding as well as general torch applications.

What wire brushes do you sell for weld cleaning?

We stock the Josco 4-row stainless steel wire brush for cleaning stainless steel welds without contamination, the Duramax nylon/brass/steel wire brush set for versatile surface preparation, and Handy Hardware wire brush sets (3-piece and 185mm) for general rust removal and weld cleaning.

Expect good results from this silver cleaner

Old tried and true polish that my grandmother used to clean her silver. I have tried other brands and I have found Goddard to be the best.

Scissors you will use for multiple tasks

These small scissors are so handy they should be in everyone’s utensil drawer. They are great for unpicking stitches, trimming off dead leaves and buds on plants and doing absolutely any job that requires a small blade. I love them I had a pair that I lost and now I have replaced them.
